Below are some questions to help you reflect on the sermon:
In what areas of your life is it easiest to "play the part" of a good Christian while your heart is actually focused on yourself?
Read 1 Kings 9:10 - 10:29. God rescued His people from slavery in Egypt, yet Solomon ended up using forced labor and hoarding Egyptian wealth. Why is it so easy for us to drift right back into the very sins, habits, or "empires" that God has already rescued us from?
When you mess up or desire control, who or what is the "scapegoat" you are most tempted to blame so you don't have to deal with your own heart?
Solomon built a massive ivory and gold throne guarded by lions. Jesus rules from a cross, and Revelation describes Him on the throne as a "slain Lamb." How does seeing Jesus' self-emptying, servant-hearted leadership change the way you view power and success in your own life?
