Here are some questions to help you reflect on the sermon:

  1. When have you felt empty? How have you seen God work in those times?
  2. Read Acts 2:1-21. The Holy Spirit came with sounds like a rushing wind and tongues of fire, empowering the disciples to speak in other languages. How did this extraordinary event allow them to "sing" in a new way? Can you think of a time when God empowered you or someone you know to do something that felt bigger than yourselves?
  3. The sermon connected the idea of being an "empty vessel" to Jesus' call to "come to me as a little child." What do you think it means to approach God with that kind of childlike emptiness or humility? How might this be different from what the world often tells us about what we need to be or have?
  4. The sermon gave many examples of how "empty vessels sing" in ministry (caring for children/parents, packing lunches, listening to others, speaking words of encouragement, teaching, etc.). Thinking about your own life, how can you be " an empty vessel" that God uses to "sing" (serve, love, help) others this week, even in small ways?

BULLETIN

Below are some questions to help you reflect on the sermon:

  1. Can you think of a time when you've felt impatient or wondered, "When will things get better?" in a difficult situation?
  2. Read Acts 1:1-10. Jesus told his disciples they would receive power from the Holy Spirit to be his "witnesses." What do you think it means to be a "witness" for Jesus in our daily lives?
  3. The sermon mentioned that Jesus ascended and will return in glory. How does knowing that Jesus is in control and will ultimately make all things right give you hope when you see brokenness or injustice in the world?
  4. If Jesus has already secured the victory over sin and brokenness, what does that mean for how we approach challenges and difficult situations in our own lives? Who might God be urging you to go to in order to be his witness?
