Below are questions to help you and your household reflect on the sermon.
Read Jeremiah 38:1-13: Jeremiah told the people of Jerusalem that if they wanted to live, they had to surrender to Babylon. Instead, they got angry and threw him in a muddy pit. Why is it so hard for us to admit we are defeated and need to surrender, even when God tells us it’s the only way to be saved?
Matthew 16:13-23: When Jesus told Peter He was going to be arrested and killed, Peter got angry and said, "This will never happen to you!" How was Peter acting exactly like the officials who threw Jeremiah into the pit?
We naturally want to read ourselves as the heroes of Bible stories. Why is it important (and humbling) to admit that we are often like the officials who threw Jeremiah into the pit, or like Peter trying to stop Jesus from going to the cross?
Read 2 Corinthians 4:7-12: We carry the death of Jesus, but also His resurrected life, in our fragile bodies. How does knowing you have "Easter morning" planted inside of you change the way you handle being afflicted or persecuted?
