Below are some questions to help you reflect on the sermon:
Why is it so tempting for us to idolize the past (the "glory days") rather than following the Spirit in the new things God is doing?
Read 2 Kings 2:1-18. Elijah and Elisha walked backward out of the Promised Land as it had become infested with idols and the "wisdom of the world." Are there areas, habits, or environments in your own life that you need to intentionally walk away from because they have drawn your heart away from God?
When we feel threatened or scared, how do we often try to use "swords" (anger, control, political power, harsh words) to force God's will instead of trusting the cross?
Elisha didn't use a sword to cross back into the Promised Land; he used Elijah's cloak and trusted the Holy Spirit. How does this remind us of our own baptism? What does it mean for your daily life that God looks at you and says, "With you I am well pleased"?
